Before we get to the actual story about the time capsule, a little cosmology:
As everyone knows, the Earth rotates once around its own axis every 24 hours. This rotation means that a person standing on the equator is traveling at a speed of 0.46 km/s. That’s 1656 km/h, which they don’t notice at all.
The Earth moves around the Sun at a speed of 30 km/s, and our solar system orbits the center of our galaxy at a speed of 220 km/s. Our home galaxy, in turn, moves through the universe at a speed of 630 km/s.
As a result, we move in a complex curve around various orbits in a series of interlocking spirals, and it is highly unlikely that we will ever reach a particular position in the universe again.
This small example is intended to show how unique a particular moment in time is. With my time capsule instruments, I want to capture a very special moment in a person’s life. Similar to a cornerstone in a house, a very special object can find its place in a time capsule instrument.
There are no limits to the ideas, except for the maximum size. The object can be simply a short story on a piece of paper, the ashes of a beloved pet, the wedding rings of grandparents, or simply something very special to the owner of the instrument. The object is firmly glued into the body of the instrument and can only be recovered by destroying the guitar. Just like uncovering the foundation stone of an old house.
The first time capsule instrument is the SIRIUS 17xx Oak – 2013 Slyrs Time Capsule. Here, a small bottle of 12 years aged SLYRS whisky from 2013 was glued into the body. Many thanks to the SLYRS distillery for their kind support and the great photos from the whisky barrel warehouse.
